Fall Classic Game 7 Draws Over 50 Million Audience Members In the United States, Canada and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays 5-4 drew a aggregate over 50 million watchers across the United States, Canada, and Japan territories. MLB reported this marks the most-watched Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Details

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series game after the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was eighth, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the game drew over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership increases for two straight years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the total American viewership reached over 16 million. The total World Series viewership in Japan was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 averaged 8.09 million watchers, an eight percent increase compared to last year and Fox’s best playoff ratings after 2017.

MLB reported that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in 16 various tongues.
